Work Experience

Work Experience: A Vital Component of Our Courses

Work experience is a crucial and mandatory part in all of our courses. It must be completed in order for learners to gain the full major award they are studying. It bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world practice, giving learners the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain valuable insights, and enhance their employability.

As part of their education, learners are expected to secure their own work placements. However, our staff are always available to guide and support them throughout the process. We ensure that each student’s placement is relevant to their course, ensuring they receive the best possible learning experience. For instance, students studying nursing will undertake placements in healthcare settings, directly aligning with their future career path.

The Benefits of Work Experience

By the end of the year, every student will have gained invaluable experience in a real workplace environment. This includes:

  • Experiencing the world of work
  • Finding out if you like the area of work or not
  • Learn new skills
  • Develop the skills you already have
  • Strengthen your CV
  • Possibly get a job

Moreover, students will leave with a strong and relevant reference, which will be a valuable asset in their future career endeavors. In fact, many of our students have been offered full-time positions at the organizations where they completed their work placements, showcasing the success and impact of our work experience program.

Work Experience Hours & Schedule

  • The number of hours required for work experience varies depending on the course.
  • Work experience will be completed over a period of time in one of two formats:
    • 1 day per week

  • Learners will receive clear guidance at the beginning of the program regarding:
    • The total number of hours required
    • The scheduleand format of the placement
    • Any flexibility or requirements specific to their course
  • The course coordinator and work experience teacher will provide ongoing support and ensure learners understand their commitments

Thank you to Employers

Longford College of Further Education would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the employers who have generously provided work experience opportunities for our students.

The work experience module is a core component of every course at the college, and the provision of these placements enables our learners to meet their academic requirements while gaining hands-on knowledge of specific industries. These experiences not only enhance their skills but also give them valuable insights into the professional world.

Completing a work placement is truly invaluable for our learners, as it helps them build confidence, refine their skills, and develop important industry connections. We deeply appreciate the support and commitment of our employers in welcoming our learners into their organizations and providing them with such meaningful opportunities.

Thank you for being an integral part of our learners’ learning journey. Your contribution plays a vital role in shaping the future careers of our learners.
