APT Project

The Access to Post-Primary Teaching (APT) Project is a joint initiative between the National University of Ireland Galway and St. Angela’s College, Sligo, which is funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) under the Programme for Access to Higher Education (PATH). PATH Strand 1 focuses on projects which set out to increase the number of students from under-represented groups entering teacher education.

The APT Project has developed a direct entry route into St. Angela’s three Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes. This restricted entry route is specifically for students from socio-economic groups which are under-represented in higher education, and who are undertaking a QQI-FET qualification in a Further Education (FE) College within the Border, Midland West (BMW) region only.  APT entrants to the BA PME programmes receive a range of financial and other support on entry to the programme and throughout their studies.

This project is led by the Home Economics and Education Departments, along with the Access Office of St. Angela’s College, in partnership with Templemichael College and other Further Education (FE) providers in the Border, Midlands and Western (BMW) region.  More information about the Access to Post-Primary Teaching Project is available from  http://www.stangelas.nuigalway.ie/stangelas/prospective-students/undergraduate-students/
