Course Overview

Aim: This course is designed to introduce students to the concept of social studies, sociology and psychology in order to be able to acquire knowledge, develop skills and competences to work under supervision in a range of social care settings or to progress further to higher education and training.  There are different assessment processes in this course including assignments, exams, project work and learner records.


This is a full time course that runs over 1 academic school year

4 days per week with 1 day a week on work experience placement,

Entry Level

Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or FETAC/QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.

Work Experience

External work experience is a vital part of this course. Learners are required to secure a minimum of 80 hours’ work experience. Students will need to undergo Garda Vetting

  • PLC Government Levy: €200 – Exempt if student has evidence of Back to Education or SUSI Grant or Medical Card
  • Human Growth and Development Book: €25/30 (approx.)
  • Exam/Certificate Fee: €50
